Hadeeth 1
Hadhrat Ali (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Whosoever posses the means by which he can reach the house of Allah (for Hajj), despite this he does not perform Hajj, there is no difference if he dies as a Jew or Christian.' (Tirmidhi)
Hadeeth 2
Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, Allah Ta'ala says, ‘That slave to whom I granted health and widened his sustenance, despite that in five years does not visit my house (Ka'aba), he is definitely deprived.' (Ibn Hibbaan)
Commentary
The Hadith does not mean the person will actually become Jew or Christian, but Imaam Ghazzaaly (RA) writes, ‘If a person posses all the means whereby he can perform Hajj, despite that he does not, by leaving such a great act of Ibaadat, he is as though deviated like the Jews and Christians.' If Allah blessed us with the means, then no avenue should be left closed to fulfil this great act of worship.
