Is it Wajib (incumbent) upon ladies to perform the Eid Salaat? If they perform the Eid Salaat at home individually is it allowed?

Answer

The Eid salaat is not wajib (incumbent) upon ladies. It is incorrect to perform Eid salaat individually. Not even men can perform Eid salaat without jama'ah (congretion), because congretion is a condition for Eid salaat just as it is for Jumm'ah salaat. Therefore, if the women performs the Eid salaat at home it will not be correct. It is, however, permissible for women to perform Nafl (optional) salaat at home on Eid day after Eid salaat has been performed in the masjid or Eidgah. To perform nafl (optional) salaat before the Eid salaat is makrooh (detestable) for men and women both.
