Late comers for Salaat

Question

A group of people reached the mosque at such a time when the congregational prayer had already been completed. What should the group of people do? Should they perform the Salaat in congregation or individually and should the Azaan and Iqaamat be called or not?

Answer

In the above case, the group of people should perform the prayer individually without Azaan and Iqaamat. It is Makrooh to perform a second congregation in the masjid. It is written in Mabsooth of Imaam Sarakhsi  R.A.

If a group of people reach the masjid at such a time when the Salaat has been performed then it is Makrooh for them to perform the Salaat in congregation with Azaan and Iqaamat, but instead they should perform it separately without Azaan and Iqaamat. It is reported by Hadhrat Hasan radhiyallahu anhu.  If the Salaat with congregation was missed by the companions of he Holy Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), some used to follow the congregation whilst others performed it in the Masjid without Azaan and Iqaamat
